My nephew recently shows interest in ham radio. We are encouraging him to join a local club so he can take a license test if he wants to do more later. He even said that he wanted to do an international broadcast with his friends someday. I was wondering which license he must take to reach that goal. I know that license level relates to broadcast frequency and coverage, but I am still not completely sure.

I would like to know more about this too. Is your nephew in the U.S.? I read that the General license allows operating on any frequency. I think that would allow your nephew to broadcast from the US to as far as possible, but I'm not sure.

As far as I know, for huge distance such as crossing countries, broadcasts may need to be relayed via station and pass certain regulations. That being said, I suppose there is higher chance of applying for international broadcast permit if you have higher license level.
